Competition Call

Finally the competition has begun, round 1 of the Queensland Super Sprints on the Morgan Park Circuit at Warwick got underway on the 20/21st February with the A Series and the B Series on the 6/7th March.

This year there were a record number of entries and as a consequence we have members in both groups, while some of our regular competitors are missing this year, through other commitments, it is great to see the new faces of Will Charlton driving a beautifully turned out Clubman and Matthew Brown driving his immaculate MGZS and you will see from the results they performed exceptionally well . Jim Selwood elected to move to the B Series and run with a number of other Sprites and Midgets and we will keep an eye on his performance.

There has also been some changes to the mounts this year, Jeff Sattler is back full time driving Marvans’ Concourse winning MGBGT, Keith Ings has swapped the BGT for a Morris Cooper S, this round was his street car as the race Mini was not quite ready, Andrew and I shared his MGB with the Nissan twin cam motor, due to the sale of the MGB race car and the Super Bee not being ready yet.

The Saturday 20 started out wet and improved to showers during the afternoon making times unpredictable on the 1.2km short track claiming a few offs over the weekend.
Sunday dawned to a fine sunny day perfect for competition and some better times.
Impressed to see the improvement in the times posted by Sean Moroney and his dad in the MGTF.

Saturday night we were the quests of Wayne and Donna Henman at their lovely property in Warwick for a BBQ, Thank you to Helen Bennett and Sally Smith for organizing our food. A great night was had with old and new members mixing and getting to know each other, while inspecting Waynes' massive workshop and inspecting his cars.

All in all a great weekend, better than the poor old B Series which experienced heavy rain and water running across the track, not much fun in an open car.
